Steven R. Laxton leads Frazier Law’s Intellectual Property practice group. Steven represents clients in complex intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution and litigation involving cutting-edge technologies. He also counsels clients on the registration and enforcement of copyrights and trademarks. Steven’s technical experience spans a wide range of industries and technologies, including electronics, consumer devices, website and mobile application software, and electric hydraulic fracturing.
Steven’s practice is distinguished by his ability to bridge the gap between technical complexity and legal strategy. His background in electrical and computer engineering enables him to grasp intricate technical details and translate them into compelling legal arguments tailored to his clients’ needs. This technical foundation includes academic research at Texas A&M University in fiber optics, photonic integrated circuits, micro and nanofabrication, and other device sciences and methods of fabrication.
Since 2026, Steven has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report® in The Best Lawyers in America®: Ones to Watch in the areas of Litigation – Patent and Patent Law.
Prior to joining Frazier Law, Steven practiced in the Intellectual Property practice groups of two AmLaw 50 firms. He also served as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Roy S. Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division—the nation’s busiest patent litigation docket.
Steven is an active member of the Christian Legal Society, the Federalist Society, the Eastern District of Texas Bar Association, and the Former Law Clerks of the Eastern District of Texas.
Steven earned his law degree from ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 2019, where he served as an Editor of the American Bar Association’s science and technology journal — Jurimetrics Journal. He earned his M.E. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University in 2017, with a specialization in Device Science and Nanotechnology, and his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2015, with a specialization in Power Engineering and Biomedical Imaging.
Outside of the office, Steven enjoys spending time with his dogs, reading, cooking, board games, and live music.
